I know COBRA is available for many, but it is very expensive to keep up and runs only for a limited period. Questions like this have been asked before and those against governement supported health care just accused those who didn’t have health insurance as lazy losers. But with the economy crashing, the scenario has changed. If you aren’t employed anymore and have no income and little savings, what are you doing for health insurance?

There are many things that are expensive. COBRA is reasonable. If insurance is important to someone they need to make that sacrifice. I guess we should be paying for their food and homes. Those are expensive and a necessity. Where does it stop?
Bad things happen. That is life. Hard times come and tough decisions have to be made. That still does not make it anyone else’s reponsibility to care for you. And you need to talk to COBRA again. That figure, according to the guy I just spoke to , seems inflated.

Well, I fit the bill for this one 100%. I had $100,000.00 of life insurance and health insurance with my last job that I worked on for four whole years. But, I got laid off last October and lost all that shitttt! Hellll, my damn health insurance was gonna jump from like seventy bucks a month to three hundred a month with the COBRA! So, now, I don’t have a drop of either life or health insurance. I hope Obama’s plan gets passed my DAMN self!

If you qualify you will find it hard to beat cobra with the govt subsidy. The govt is paying 66% of peoples cobra for a designated period of time. Check with your HR department for specifics. Once that expires then find a high deductible plan that will cover catastrophic medical problems until you get back on your feet.

First of all I don’t think you’re a lazy loser especially if you took the time to seek out information. A couple of thoughts for you. COBRA is expensive however the Fed is paying up to 65% of the COBRA bill. Another option is called Temporary coverage..It’s good for up to 3 years and the premiums are affordable. There’s also an HSA plan. High deductible low premiums and you can use IRA/401(k) proceeds to fund the plan on a tax free bases. If you have $$$ in an IRA 401(k) you can drastically lower your premiums use tax free $ to fund a medical account and I’m sure it won’t be long you’ll be back on your feet. Good Luck and hang in there….
